Important Safety Note: Powering Paper Circuits in Line with Current Guidance
This resource was originally published in 2021, prior to updated guidance surrounding lithium coin cell batteries and child safety. In accordance with recent recommendations and to ensure compliance with Reese’s Law and associated safety standards, we advise the following alternatives for powering paper circuits:
-
Use traditional AA/AAA battery holders: Circuits can be safely powered using cased battery packs connected with wires. These are more secure and less likely to pose ingestion or short-circuit risks.
-
Use USB power sources: Where appropriate, a USB connection can provide low-voltage power for circuits. This must be supervised and safely wired by an adult or as part of a teacher-led demonstration.
