What is progress?

This post follows on from my previous posts: Is learning ever achieved? and What is a ‘Learning Objective’?

Here at Chris Quigley Education we define progress as:

‘The widening and deepening of essential knowledge, skills, understanding and behaviours.’

This means that progress does not necessarily mean moving on to new content.  Instead it means advancing understanding of the same content, thereby deepening learning.

We think that depth is a much better measure of progress than the old system of levels.

What are your thoughts about depth of understanding as a measure of progress?
