What is 'mastery'?

The word ‘mastery’ is used in many different ways: The NCETM (National Centre for the Excellence of Teaching Mathematics) use the term to describe pupils working at the national expectation.  We use the term to define pupils working at greater depth within the national expectation – what we call deep learning.
Our new book, Mastery Maths, is now available.  It helps schools plan for greater depth within the expected standard and contains over 300 activities and questions to help pupils engage in some deep mathematical thinking.  Take a preview here  or visit our shop here
