Andy Meller Evaluations

What were the most useful parts of the day?

"The conference was a huge success and everyone really enjoyed the day. Andy was brilliant and tailored his talk exactly to our needs."

"It is difficult to choose any one part. Andy’s style of presentation ensured that everyone enjoyed it. The content worked well because it was grounded in reality and Andy was able to provide concrete examples. The opportunities for table discussions during the presentation were used well and were the right length-everyone kept on task!."

"It was a very productive day for us as Andy covered all aspects of outstanding teaching. We particularly appreciated the chance to see some lessons. He balanced input with plenty of opportunities for us to talk about the points he had covered."

"Andy was completely prepared for the day, on time and tuned into his audience immediately. The whole day worked perfectly with Andy's experience shining through. His hands on approach was much appreciated by the group, consisting of school leaders and teachers. The time just flew by!"

"All sections of the inset were useful. Andy was very good at getting us to look at issues in a different way – lots of practical first hand experiences and ideas were shared. It was really good that Andy is a current practitioner who had a wealth of expertise to share. Things we particularly liked were flexible timetables for literacy and numeracy; work on focused learning objectives and practical ideas to start lessons and extend learning. Andy’s sense of humour helped the day along and helped us to stay engaged!"

"It would be difficult to select one particular aspect - the whole day was just what we needed. Thought provoking, inspiring, in context - ie the real world and funny. It is always the sign of a good day when there are so many aspects discussed that can be incorporated into school practice that will be of benefit to our children - another good sign is when the day passes so quickly because of the quality of the speaker! My colleagues have commented on a positive impact Andy's input will have for them as individuals and also what we can do to improve as a school. Some took the time to thank me for giving them the opportunity to hear such an inspiring speaker - what more can I say?"

"I just wanted to email to say thankyou to Andy for the training at Chesterton yesterday. It was great-exactly what we needed at this moment in time and was thought provoking and challenging... as well as very humorous in some parts! Staff have been very complimentary about the day and it has been extremely fruitful already..... we have had a meeting this morning to discuss next steps for us following the training. Thankyou to Andy- we hope to work with him again!"

"The emphasis on key skills was great affermation as was the acquisition of life skills needed to be a successful learner. Lots of practical and do-able ideas!"

"Speaker kept you focused during the day. Made learning an enjoyable experience - very entertaining!"

"Andy was great during the first session as he set the scene and gave the bigger picture and got everyone 'hooked' in. Captivated the audience with humour but also got across the important message of what effective learning should look like. He was an inspirational speaker who delivered exactly what I wanted. We had an energised staff meeting the following day with lots of ideas of how we are going to build."

"Andy took part in a twilight within a network of five schools, so he spoke for nearly two hours. The overall aim was to inspire us about our curriculum and challenge and provoke peoples thinking to help them make changes and develop their curriculum. This he certainly achieved and at the same time offered humour and various superb anecdotes. It was all great and inspirational"

"Both days were very useful, we have the basis of a new school curriculum for September 2012 and lots of materials that we can use to back up our plans. Andy Mellor was very supportive and encouraged lively debate which enabled us to clarify our thoughts as a Senior Leadership Team. Thank you."

"The training delivered by Andy was excellent, outstanding, inspiring, motivating and moving. Every participant loved it and left the room energised! Thanks you."

"Crackin – have paralleled in ideas throughout my diary for when to use some of the toolkit ideas to help focus/guide meetings so that we get the why bit right.”

"Excellent – lots of food for thought and a morale booster.”

"Really inspirational.”

"Brilliant and thought provoking – also realistic and reflective – would have loved this part continued on Thursday or Friday pm.”

"We were out and about and active and came away with lots of practical ‘use-tomorrow-ideas’ and everyone appreciated this.”

"Thought provoking, enjoyable, inspiring and motivating were key words on staff evaluations and the video clips illustrated the ideas well."

"We all laughed a lot! - Humour helps the memory!"

"It made us think about the variety of our learners – and that all learners appreciate being active (as did the staff on the day)."

"Thank you so much for Friday's INSET. I have just been inundated with staff saying how much they enjoyed the day. There were so many compliments for you......'a natural charisma'...'funny, engaging, and he didn't use his notes'...'thought provoking, re-invigorated me and reminded me of all the things I do well but may have become lax on and the things I need to work on."

"All of it! Setting the scene for future government change, reassurances about the changes we have made to our curriculum so far and practical possibilities to take back into the classroom."

"Andy was very well organised, the event had been well planned and all information and related documentation receiced promptly. The little activities shared in the handout were very useful to consider including in classroom practice and Andy was well informed and clearly knowledgable in the content of the day."

“Excellent value for money – Andy had real experience which was great to listen to and he had the right balance between talking, listening and answering questions. It really was superb and so we are hoping that once decisions are made at the higher management level that we will be in touch again." (Tanglin Trust School, Singapore)

“Reminders to return to the NC document to help minimise content. Discussions with heads of curriculum who were able to fire questions at Andy. Leaving the booklet of materials. Follow up day with deputy head to look at how this could work in school very useful." (Tanglin Trust School, Singapore)

“Inspirational, motivational, practical ideas relating to all aspects of leadership delivered with confidence and supported brilliantly with a raft of experiences and examples. A leadership toolbox ready to open. Ideas have already been utilised in schools and are being developed."

“Andy was quite simply outstanding. He responded perfectly to all my requests, took on board our journey, made the points I had asked him to make sensitively yet with real passion and inspired everyone. He is fab!""

“The twilight session was planned and pitched very well for many schools who are all at different parts of the journey of curriculum innovation and change. As many people said, including governors, it was such a shame we didn’t have more time to ‘do’, That would have to be planned into individual school’s planners and budgets!"

“Everything worked well and feedback from delegates was extremely positive across the board!"

“The keynote speech was inspirational and practical."

“Inspiring. There was new learning for some staff, consolidating for others. Some useful tools. We had fun."

“Andy presented the day with a focused yet flexible approach to discussing the curriculum, ideas to take away, reflection and key questions raised effectively. At the end of a term it was great to have a day with thought provoking points yet delivered with humour."

“The presentation was a useful prompt tool to take away with lots of key pointers of where to find further information. As it was a day involving 5 schools it was important that it met everyone’s needs. Andy openly chatted about how to do this and feedback from all staff was that it reaffirmed good practice in place already, gave fresh impetus to projects already started or prepared thoughts and ideas for next step developments to moving towards a skill based curriculum."

“The course was thought provoking and inspiring - it also was easy to access whatever level you worked at within the organisation, ie: teaching assistant to governors to head. It provided a structure and ideas that we then felt able to use in school over several sessions to improve then content and delivery of our curriculum. We are in the process of planning and implementing this now."

“I cannot identify any aspects that were anything less than brilliant. The whole day was consistent in its style, information, humour and Andy’s subject knowledge. Andy kept dropping in lots of open ended questions which began to make my brain hurt as my thinking raced on…always a sign of value for money in CPD."

“Feedback from colleagues was equally flattering of Andy’s delivery and key messages. One colleague stated that Andy made her revisit the reasons why she put herself through NPQH and the appointment process. At the start of the day she had felt jaded with Headship but she left with a re-commitment to herself and her role."

“The whole day was extremely uplifting, informative and thought provoking, delivered in a sensitive, humorous and very down to earth manner. Andy acknowledges the pressures on schools but has real, workable solutions to suggest. My staff thoroughly enjoyed the day and I know that we will be able to have a good dialogue around our curriculum and that the school will move forward as a result."

“We enjoyed Andy’s humour; it is such a refreshing approach after what can be dry sessions lead by advisors or school improvement officers who tend to take whatever the latest initiative as gospel and never question it. His video clips are also inspiring, as are the various quotations from relevant people. The day delivered what I wanted it to – and probably more."

“Andy was fantastic and has motivated and empowered all of our staff and Governors. We all enjoyed his anecdotes and enthusiasm for the curriculum. His knowledge of the National Curriculum was extremely thorough and we have already used some of his ideas. There was a good balance of listening, talking and watching relevant DVDs. The timings were perfect and as a school this training has given us the platform to evaluate and plan the next steps for our curriculum. Andy was a ‘joy’ to work with."

“The whole day was very useful and Andy had tailored his message to the specific needs of our school, which was great. The most useful parts were firstly the importance of identifying key drivers for our setting and also Andy's explanation of planning for a creative curriculum."

“Inspiring and in line with our school ethos and beliefs of the reasons and value of teaching and working as a professional. Inspired me to be innovative on Monday!"

“Andy was incredibly motivating for the staff and this is exactly what was needed. He used a great deal of real life stories that helped the teachers and other staff to see how a remodeled curriculum could inspire and address attainment issues. I liked how he re-evaluated the day based on the needs of the school and the staff. "

“The event was pitched really well and Andy totally understood our needs as a school. Gave us time to discuss and provided really useful examples and put these examples into context. Can’t speak highly enough of the day. Please pass on my thanks to Andy as his day has really motivated us to move forwards."

“Andy Meller came to talk at our school and....WOW! Although I am already passionate about what I do, I was truly inspired after listening to Andy. The ideas, the videos and the advice that was given will be embedded into my future practice. Andy has inspired me to go from good to great! Thank-you so much for a great day, I can't stop talking about it!"

“As a Head it was good for our staff to hear about the legalities and even more so about the freedom we have."

“It is hard to pinpoint anything in particular as everything was relevant and useful. We enjoyed the practical activities and the opportunity to consider how to personalise our curriculum. Andy’s personal experiences were also interesting."

“Andy has a great sense of humour and this ensured that the whole staff team, teachers and TAs, were completely engaged with the work and thoroughly enjoyed the day."

I have been very impressed with the ease of organisation. The service has been flexible, accommodating and responsive.

Excellent. Correspondence was excellent beforehand. The delivery was great. We invited 3 other schools to join us and they all said it was a great start to a new academic year. They are all keen to come again. It was an opportunity to mix with our neighbourhood schools as well as tackle school improvement.

Hello Nicola,

I am writing to you to say thank you for helping to organise our training day at..... Andy lived up to our high expectations (and more) as you will see from my email to him. I have been up since the crack of dawn planning our follow up staff meeting tonight as I really wanted to maximise on the great start Andy provided.

I expect there will be an formal evaluation with the invoice but I wanted to get in first.

Dear Andrew,
I would like to say a huge thank you for the time and energy you put into today. I loved your delivery. If your ears have been burning, I’ll own up. It was me! I was talking to a headteacher colleague about you. I described you as a FANTASTIC and sensitive communicator. You covered a lot of ground in a simple, encouraging way which was spot on for the first day back.

I know you have helped us take a few more very sturdy steps on our ‘coming together’ journey. I have no doubt that your staff feel very lucky to have you. Your passion for making a positive difference comes across loud and clear. I do hope our paths will cross again. Thank you ever so much.
