Avoid sub levels for non-core subjects

Lord Dearing was very precise when he revised the curriculum. level descriptors are ‘best fit’.

None of the descriptors can be classed as upper or lower levels. This is an attempt to get teachers to create more paperwork and to seemingly show progress. But what is wrong with getting to grips with the level descriptor as it stands and grouping children into:

  • At this level with help (Bronze)
  • Secure at this level (Silver)
  • Moving into aspects of the next level (bus still best fit this level) (Gold)

This would appear much more manageable and realistic for busy teachers.
